Los Angeles: Exhibit, Chef and Theatre Picks for this Week’s Art Dating and Matchmaking
Art and Living checks in with Christy Dusablon for her weekly dish on the best places to see art, dine and enjoy a night out on the town! If you have a gallery, museum, exhibit, chef, or performing arts event you want to see on Art Date, e-mail Christy at christy@artandliving.com.
Kristi Engle Gallery is hosting John O’Brien’s exhibit re-Siting (chapter and verse). The gallery devotes itself primarily to solo exhibitions of new works by contemporary artists. O’Brien is undoubtably contemporary; he incorporates the surrealist concern with memory and combines it with the abstract expressionist interest in the formal aspects of creating. This Saturday the exhibit closes, so come see this creative genius before it comes to an end.
I am going to try something different, and recommend a small burger joint in Los Angeles. Normally I keep it upscale, but this weekend have a burger and a pitcher of beer. Remember guys, girls can handle beer and beef, and from the reviews I have read The Bucket has the best burgers in town!
This Saturday at 8:30pm Redcat (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) is showing Julie Dossavi’s contemporary African dance, which is infused with jolts of high fashion and street culture. The show is enthusiastic, tribal, ethnic, modern, expressive, and abstract–all at once. General admission is $25. Come. Have fun!
