Los Angeles: Exhibit, Chef and Theatre Picks for this Week’s Art Dating and Matchmaking

Art and Living checks in with Christy Dusablon for her weekly dish on the best places to see art, dine and enjoy a night out on the town! If you have a gallery, museum, exhibit, chef, or performing arts event you want to see on Art Date, e-mail Christy at christy@artandliving.com.

De Soto Gallery is pleased to present Tait’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, entitled It’s About Time. The title is a play on mankind’s physical and psychological relationship to time and space and what we, as humans, rely on to make sense of it all. Through the artist’s work we, as viewers, witness the process of making something concrete and measurable. Tait’s basic components are cars, books, and clothing, which allow the idea of multiple meanings because they are, in fact, multilayered. Tait will be present for the opening reception on Friday, March 21 from 6 until 8 but the show will run through April 20.

Noe Restaurant has the kind of menu that will make anyone’s mouth water with hunger–even if you just ate! One thing’s clear here: the sheer amount of time and effort the place put into each dish. For example, the Striped Bass served with crispy risotto cake and tomato confit sounds simple, but little nuances (like crispy risotto) exemplify the delicate touch of the chef. The place isn’t cheap, but I assure you it is well worth every dime spent.

The world adored the movie. Now buckle up, because the Ahmanson Theatre is showing the Tony Award-winning musical Sweeney Todd. An interesting aside: Many still wonder whether the story of Sweeney Todd is fiction or fact. It’s speculated that Sweeney Todd is actually based on a real person who committed similar crimes around 1800. With that in mind, the play becomes just a bit more spooky…
