Art and Living is on the art fair circuit, getting you up close and personal with some of the faces and minds behind the world’s greatest art fairs
SCOPE New York had a strong showing this past week with galleries recording record sales—you could definitely feel the high energy level all weekend as hordes of visitors mingled with the fantastic art brought in by galleries.
Throngs of visitors came out this weekend to witness the latest presentation of Art and Living’s Art to Life Awards. In this incarnation of the vaunted award ceremony, commendations were given out to a distinguished group of women in the visual arts as part of A.I.R. Gallery’s Inaugural Gala during National Women’s History Month.

New York City is still cloaked in her early-spring grayness, but SCOPE New York is going green. The vaunted art fair is kicking off its new Green Initiative by introducing an assortment of eco-friendly offerings to this year’s show: a hybrid VIP car service (courtesy of ZipCar), VIP cards printed with soy ink, and various other environmentally helpful projects. In doing so, SCOPE hopes to inspire global art communities to re-imagine their roles in the preservation of our planet.

The group show Between the Lines: 5 Artists and the Lucid at William Turner Gallery from February 23 – March 22, organized by prolific curator and critic Peter Frank, has lent me a tantalizing chance to document perspectives on the new work of L.A.-based artists Michael Braden, Alex Couwenberg, Peter Lodato, and Charles Arnoldi, while chronicling the history of a unique glass piece imparted by its creator, Larry Bell.
As a way to kick off their 50th year of existence in style, L.A. Mart and L.A. Mart Design Center held a gala celebration to christen the center’s new, Christopher Gaona-designed main lobby on January 10. A plethora of Los Angeles’ most influential figures made their way out to the Downtown L.A. event, which was organized for a good cause—proceeds from the evening benefited Inner-City Arts, an L.A.-based, non-profit arts education center founded to enrich the lives of inner-city children through the arts.
Bonhams is one of the world’s oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques to date. At 1 pm on March 19, Bonhams in New York will hold its long awaited auction of traditional, modern and contemporary Japanese art.
On sale will be the second installment of prints from the Yoshida Family collection, which will include 68 paintings to select from.
